Absolute Twaddle: Mistletoe

A sprig of mistletoe in a drawing by Sol Eytinge, Jr. via the British Library

High over your head grows a green witches’ broom —

A parasite they say, tho’ loved by bride and groom.

One kiss exchanged under the ball of green

Assures the truest lovers ever to be seen.

Pluck a druid’s berry to forever seal the bond;

When the pearls are gone you’ll never be so fond.

Lovers seek and lovers lose

Be so careful how you choose

To kiss under the mistletoe.
