Time: A Rhyme

River Holiday colour

I took apart my watch today
To see if I could fix the way
The hands swirl past in minutes fleet
And catch Time on his nimble feet
The better to persuade him soon
That things would be much more in tune
If he were to amble a slower pace
And set aside this intemperate race
For life is lived in moments rare
Snatched from places here and there
But so seldom enjoyed to full extent
In respites we are so briefly lent
Yet he hurries on heedless of our dismay:
Let this happy minute last the day.
